CBD Oil for Dementia and Heart Disease
CBD may help deter neurodegenerative diseases
Diseases like Alzheimers and MS are two of the biggest issues facing some of the older generation today. The impact of the diseases can be devastating and the available treatments are not overly effective so options are limited when it comes to combatting them.
Alzheimers is an irreversible progressive brain disorder that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills and eventually the ability to carry out the simplest tasks. Result form recent studies suggest that CBD may be able to help treat certain areas of the disease and relieve some of the symptoms.
Cannabidiol is a cannabinoid derived from the hemp plant. CBD indirectly impacts our Endocannabinoid system. The ECS is comprised of CB1 and CB2 receptors scattered around the body.
In 2013 a study showed that in mice with a CB1 receptor deficiency there was enhanced cognitive impairment despite the fact that there was less amyloid build up which suggests that the ECS plays or can play a role in Alzheimers.
When using CBD for Alzheimers, a few studies showed results that were promising. This 2007 study showed that CBD reduced neuroinflammation linked to Alzheimers disease by weakening Abeta evoked neuro-inflammatory responses.
In a 2004 study the results reported indicate, for the first time, that cannabidiol exerts a combination of neuroprotective, anti‐oxidative and anti‐apoptotic effects against Aβ insult.
Another study recommended that this non‐psychoactive component of marijuana may play an important role in counteracting neuronal cell death occurring in Alzheimer's disease and should be studied further.
one of many studies also noted that Importantly, cannabinoids show anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective and antioxidant properties and have immunosuppressive effects.
CBD for cardiovascular health
In the UK 7.4 million people are living with heart disease which is nearly double the number of people with cancer or Alzheimers disease.
Research is showing that CBD may be an effective and a more natural treatment for high blood pressure.
In one study in 2017, 10 men were given a 600mg dose of CBD and the results indicated that it reduced resting blood pressure in all subjects but on top of that it lead to a lower increase in blood pressure after a stress test was given.
Another study showed that CBD also has antioxidant properties which may also lower cardiac inflammation and even deter cell death caused by oxidative stress.
One area of heart health that may benefit from CBD is when it comes to myocardial Ischaemia which is where there is limited blood supply to the tissues in the body and is usually caused by problems with the blood vessels. One study showed CBD to reduce the total number of Ischemia induced arrhythmias.
As many elderly individuals take some form of medication. They must be aware that CBD may increase sensitivity to certain medications. Always speak to your Doctor if you have any questions.
