Is CBD Oil Safe? What You Were Never Told

When you're surrounded by all the positive benefits of CBD oil, you rarely stop to ask yourself if CBD oil is safe. By the time you do, you realise there's not a lot of information out there specifically digging into the safety of CBD oil.

The good news is that pure CBD oil is considered by the World Health Organisation as completely safe for human consumption

Cannabis sativa: Why CBD Oil is Safe

CBD oil is derived from the Cannabis sativa plant. Cannabis sativa is also the same plant you get Marijuana from. It is most likely this very fact that causes most people to revert back to their default mental mode of cannabis = unsafe.

Regardless of how you research the 'banning of cannabis' across the developed nations, you inevitably always reach the same conclusion; cannabis was never banned because of its detrimental effect on public health.

Now let's park that idea for a moment. Extrapolate that forward to where we are today and we have a society 'educated' to demonise cannabis from a very young age. Putting ideology aside, legally speaking in the UK, the reason why cannabis sativa (or specifically, marijuana) is a controlled substance under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 is due to its psychoactive properties.

CBD Oils are Safe

The psychoactive properties in the Cannabis sativa plant come from a chemical compound known as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). When this chemical compound binds to a specific receptor in your brain, you get 'high'.

In contrast to THC, CBD is a completely different chemical compound. CBD is the abbreviated name for cannabidiol. In its pure form, CBD is not psychoactive yet retains many of cannabis' known benefits. The World Health Organisation published a report in 2017 that stated: "Across a number of controlled and open label trials of the potential therapeutic effects of CBD it is generally well tolerated, with a good safety profile."

The BBC also did a pretty good article explaining all of this too.

It is the psychoactive properties (we are told) that were the primary cause for cannabis being classed as a controlled substance. This was despite very little clinically-controlled evidence demonstrating it's adverse effects.

Ancient CBD Oil Use was Safe

Thousands of years before the British Governent conducted the "Indian Hemp Drugs Commission Report 1893-94", your ancestors were taking cannabis safely for many ailments.

The earliest known recorded use of cannabis medicinally comes from 2,737 BCE; when Emperor Shen Neng of China wrote in a book of records that it could help.

The Egyptians, Greeks and Indians all have similar stories throughout their history that suggest that hemp plants were widely used for industrial, nutritional and properties.

There are many other recorded examples throughout history that lead all the way to today. Of course, back then we were not using the modern methods used today to isolate and extract the pure form of CBD specifically.

That's why we can confidently say that CBD oil today is even safer than it was in the years past.

But there are still some areas for concern.

There are some instances where CBD oil is not safe. They are limited to where CBD oils are being packaged and labelled as 100% pure CBD oil when in fact, they are not.

The recent deregulation in the UK has led to a flood of inferior products entering the UK market. It is very difficult to mitigate against this, as it is with any pre-labelled supplement that has not undergone it's own independent tests.

The best way to keep CBD oil safe for you and your family is to make sure that you only ever buy CBD Oil from UK retailers who can prove the authenticity of the oil with lab tests, certificates and proof of source.
